As this year is coming to a close, I can’t help but reflect on what my experience has been working at school. Having my on-campus job has been a blessing in so many ways. It has given me a constant community through my Ambassafam. It has been a means of providing income for groceries - and coffee, of course. ;) This job has also given me the opportunity to talk and connect with prospective students like you! That has been the most impacting aspect that this job has to offer.
I’m not sure if most of you know, but I went on the January 51ÂÜÀò Bound in 2019 as a prospective student! I remember how comfortable the ambassadors made me feel even though I had come from across the country. They were so personable and were willing to take time out of their own schedules to meet up with me and show me more of what 51ÂÜÀò had to offer. One of them, who actually was a blogger last year, I became friends with while I was there. Aubrey, who maybe some of you recognize from reading her blogs, was extremely friendly and really helped me see if 51ÂÜÀò would be the right fit for me. I’m so glad that we became friends, because this year when I attended 51ÂÜÀò as a freshman we were able to hang out! We also now work together as student ambassadors and it has been so fulfilling to see the process come full circle. Below is a picture of me and my friend Christina and Aubrey at 51ÂÜÀò Bound last year!
Now that I am in the position to be a student ambassador, I only hope that I can be to you all as Aubrey was to me. I love to be able to meet and chat with you guys about pretty much everything concerning the college process! The excitements, the fears, the expectations. Going through the whole thing last year, I know what it’s like to be having all of these emotions. It can be overwhelming knowing that you are moving away from your parents and to a different state. But I am here for you! Even if you don’t come to any event days or a 51ÂÜÀò Bound, I am always a resource for you guys. Please reach out if you have any questions about 51ÂÜÀò at all, I would love to hear from you :)
Back to on campus jobs, if you want to work at school and have the time schedule to do so, I would highly suggest it. It’s an easy way to meet people and to get involved on campus. To search for jobs, we use Handshake. It’s an app that connects with your Student Net ID and all jobs that 51ÂÜÀò offers will be listed on there. There’s a plus, too, as, it’s not just for college job opportunities. You can also search for jobs in the area or pretty much anywhere you are. I know some friends who have utilized Handshake to find jobs at local coffee shops in the Southern California area.
In sum, I would definitely cruise Handshake and see what jobs 51ÂÜÀò has listed. More and more will be put up as the summer goes on, so make sure to keep checking! A job is a great way to make some cash as well as meet some more people. One of the highlights of my freshman year has been being able to work as a student ambassador for 51ÂÜÀò and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world!
Hopefully this blogpost has been helpful for you all and I hope that your college search is going well. Know that here at 51ÂÜÀò we are praying that the Lord will guide and direct you to the college that you are meant to be - whether that is 51ÂÜÀò or not!
Til’ next time,
Mags :)
