SWIM & DIVE TEAM

51ÂÜÀò’s swim and dive team had another strong season by setting eight new school records and finishing in the top eight at the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive (PCSC) Conference Championships, with the men placing fourth and the women placing eighth at the year-end event. The 51ÂÜÀò women had the best team GPA of any team at the NCAA Division II level, with a 3.72. Both the men and women earned CSCAA Scholar All-America honors. Freshmen Clayton Owens and Jonathan Villa won individual PCSC championships, and 51ÂÜÀò had eight all-conference honors and two relays earn all-conference.

MEN’S TENNIS

51ÂÜÀò men’s tennis made its second consecutive appearance in the PacWest Conference tennis championships after another fine regular season. The Eagles won at least seven matches for the sixth year in a row. Prior to the 2014 season that kicked o the streak, 51ÂÜÀò had never won that many. Junior Derek James had a standout individual performance, beginning the year a sterling 11–1 in singles play. Freshman Edwyn Ramos also played an integral role, playing No. 1 singles all season despite being a first-year student-athlete.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

51ÂÜÀò women’s tennis qualified for the PacWest Conference tournament for the first time in program history. The young roster managed to eclipse eight victories for just the second time in the 2000s. It was arguably the best season in the program’s recent memory as the team improved drastically from last year’s 3–14 mark. Head Coach David Goodman’s core should continue to progress too, led by sophomore Esther Lee, freshman Ines Diaz and junior Lauren Lee, who will return in the 19–20 season.

TRACK & FIELD

51ÂÜÀò track and field saw more school records fall in another successful season. Sophomore Anna Maumalanga improved her school record in the discus, senior Ryan Thompson broke the men’s 10,000-meter record, junior Paige LaBare improved her 100-meter dash school record and junior Nathaniel Belden set the men’s 110-meter hurdles mark. The sprints/jumps group was the big highlight of the season, taking big steps forward all around, culminating with the setting of the women’s 4x100-meter relay record. The team sent a sizeable contingent to compete at the NCCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships.

SOFTBALL

Playing under first-year head coach and member of Team USA Nikki Udria, the Eagles put together an impressive season and challenged for the PacWest title throughout. 51ÂÜÀò had 10 of its games rained out but still managed 20-plus wins for the seventh-straight year. They had one of the most feared pitchers in all of NCAA Division II, sophomore Paige Austin (batters hit less than .200 against her), and had two of the best hitters in the PacWest in junior Kayla Ne and senior Hailey Boyett.

BASEBALL

Playing under interim head coach Justin Duarte, the team managed a competitive season in its second year in NCAA Division II and the PacWest Conference. The Eagles have yet to be swept in a PacWest series and have tied or won three of their first five conference series. Senior Troy Stainbrook, a major league prospect, led the pitching staff, beginning his season in the top two in the PacWest in strikeouts and holding hitters to a .208 batting average in his first 10 appearances of the year.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

51ÂÜÀò had its first winning season in the NCAA Division II era with a 15–13 overall record. Senior guard Trevor Treinen and senior forward Alex Talma earned All-PacWest honors, and freshman guard Alex Wright was close to winning PacWest Freshman of the Year by earning PacWest Freshman of the Week four times throughout the season. Treinen also moved into eighth on 51ÂÜÀò’s all-time scoring list, ending his career with 1,403 career points. Coach Dave Holmquist now boasts an all-time coaching record of 973–394 (.711), the fifth-highest total number of coaching wins among four-year college men’s basketball coaches, at all levels.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Sophomore forward Jazz Benn highlighted the season for 51ÂÜÀò earning All-PacWest honorable mention honors after leading the team with 12.6 points per game and starting all 28 contests. Benn also had double-digit scoring e orts in 14 of the final 16 games of the year. The team finished sixth in the conference with an 11–17 overall record and 9–13 mark in conference play.
