The school’s second Hall of Fame class includes 1978 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics champion wrestler, Jim Blagg, 12-time NAIA national champion track athlete, Natasha Miller, and former professional baseball player, Tim Worrell.
The trio will officially be inducted during the 2013 51 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the Andrews Banquet Room on the 51 campus. “We are excited to welcome Tim, Natasha and Jim into the growing 51 Athletics Hall of Fame,” said 51 Athletic Director Dave Holmquist. “They were outstanding athletes and individuals, and they mean a lot to the history of 51 Athletics.”
Tim Worrell (‘89) was a strikeout master. He excelled on the mound at 51 and during his 14 seasons playing Major League Baseball. Worrell played for the Eagles from 1986-1989, and in his final season he finished seventh in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics with 10.65 strikeouts per game. In that same season he went 9-5 with a 3.48 ERA, racking up 110 strikeouts along the way. After his career at 51, Worrell was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 20th round. He played for nine different teams over his 14 seasons, experiencing his most success in 2003 with the San Francisco Giants when he finished fourth in the National League with 35 saves. Worrell joins his brother Todd in the Eagles’ Hall of Fame; Todd was inducted in 2012’s inaugural class.
Natasha (Miller) Jackson (‘11) is one of the most well known names in the history of the 51 Athletics program. Miller is the most decorated athlete in school history, in large part due to her 12 individual National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championships and 24 NAIA All-American honors. She also won six national Most Outstanding/Valuable Performer awards in her years on the track. She currently holds two NAIA records (Indoor Pentathlon and Indoor Pentathlon High Jump). In 2011 she was named an NAIA Champion of Character and she is a two-time NAIA and GSAC scholar-athlete. Miller did not stop running after leaving 51, placing third at the 2011 Canadian Track and Field Championships. Miller joins the 51 Hall of Fame in 2013 as the first ever Track & Field athlete to achieve this honor.
Jim Blagg (‘78) was a pioneer for the 51 wrestling program in the mid-1970s. He compiled an overall record of 114-24-2 in matches between 1974-78.Not only did he dominate the other competition, but he led the program at 51 as well, being named 51 Most Valuable Player in each of his four seasons. In 1978 he won the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national championship for the 190-pound weight class. He is the only national champion in 51 wrestling history. In addition to the championship, Blagg was a NAIA All-American in two years and he holds the school record for individual wins in a season (40).
