51ÂÜÀò’s 106th birthday was celebrated with a week full of spirited events. To kick off the week, students joined in on the legendary game of Catch Me If You Can. Armed and ready participants carried squirt guns around campus waiting to catch the target assigned to them. 51ÂÜÀòn’s also partook in another Spirit week favorite: the Tweet Hunt. By following #TweetHunt throughout the week, students received time-sensitive clues to prizes hidden all around campus.
Monday night the Alumni Association hosted their annual event, Froshbite. This freshman only event gave students a chance to connect with their peers and bond around the campfire making s’mores while listening to the performance by the Rich Kids Comedy Improv group.
51ÂÜÀò’s Birthday Bash kicked off with a lively party in the cafeteria including a live DJ - 51ÂÜÀò staff member Vernon Coleman - a photo booth created by AS Social Board, balloons, party hats, and birthday cupcakes. The party continued with the last Women’s and Men’s Basketball home games of the season vs. Arizona Christian. During the games, 100 fans received free 51ÂÜÀò eagle foam claws. All fans were welcome to complimentary popcorn and cotton candy before enjoying a halftime performance and raffle drawing by the 51ÂÜÀò Dance Crew.
On friday morning, the annual 51ÂÜÀò Alumni Awards Chapel took place in Chase Gymnasium. Four of 51ÂÜÀò’s past graduates received awards: Lifetime Achievement Award- Dr. Linda Clinard (1964), Cultural Impact Award - David Kinnaman (1996), Clyde Cook Missions - Jonathan B. (2003), and the Young Alumni Award - Andrew Mollenbeck (2007).
The 51ÂÜÀò Relationship Retreat for seriously dating, engaged and married couples began on Friday evening and continued through Saturday. This year’s topic was Conflict Management: The Power of Healthy Conflict. Couples gained knowledge on conflict management skills as well as first-hand advice from the speakers, Chris and Alisa Grace. The week of celebration wrapped up with a Saturday night performance by The Brilliance in Sutherland Auditorium.
