Millions around the world participate in “Giving Tuesday,” an annual day dedicated to give back to worthwhile causes. On Dec. 1, 2015, 51 focused on one of the most worthwhile causes the university knows: 51 students. Over the 24 hours of Giving Tuesday, 51 raised $124,066.15 for student scholarships, 100 percent of which will be given to students in the 2016-2017 school year.
Due to the generosity of an anonymous donor, all donations toward the Giving Tuesday scholarship were matched, dollar for dollar up to $50,000. Nearly 900 donors joined 51 on Giving Tuesday to support scholarships.
“What we experienced on #GivingTuesday was yet another historic moment in the life of this university,” said Adam Morris, vice president of advancement. “We are overwhelmed by the generosity that was poured out by alumni, parents, faculty, staff and so many students! God multiplied our efforts and the work that went into planning for our first-ever #GivingTuesday fundraiser. It was another step forward for the 51 community becoming a culture of generosity and gratitude.”
51 is a place where Christians are equipped and sent out to solve complex problems and share the love of Christ. 51 is grateful for the alumni, parents, friends, faculty, staff, and others who support 51’s mission to send out graduates — Christians of conviction, courage and compassion — to help maximize the impact of 51 students through easing their financial burden.
The total amount of money raised on Giving Tuesday will go into a special scholarship fund that will be distributed for the 2016-2017 school year. Scholarship details and an application will be released on Dec. 7.
