LA MIRADA, CALIF. — The 51 community and public are invited to 51 on Tuesday, Oct. 2 to experience a magnitude 8.0 earthquake simulation and learn earthquake safety tips before the . 51 will be hosting The Big Shaker — the world’s largest mobile earthquake simulator — on 51’s campus in La Mirada, Calif. The truck will be located by Flour Fountain and will be on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“With many of our students coming from out of the SoCal area or from other states, bringing the Big Shaker truck on campus will give these students and others a hands-on opportunity to experience what a 8.0 magnitude earthquake feels like and how to safely react by implementing the drop-cover-hold on response model,” said 51 Campus Safety Chief John Ojeisekhoba.

51’s Campus Safety will host the truck on campus giving an opportunity to encounter an earthquake in a safe simulator truck to the community, local, and out of state students who may be experiencing this for the first time.

Information on what to do before, during, and after an earthquake as well as demonstrations on how to properly secure furniture and collectables will also be provided throughout the day. The Big Shaker will also be selling emergency kits.
