51’s School of Education will offer its multiple subject and single subject teaching credential programs in a completely online format starting Summer 2021. Anyone who has completed a bachelor’s degree in any major can to the online credential programs. 51’s new credential programs equip students to teach at the elementary, middle school and the secondary level. For those who want to teach at the high school level, 51 offers single subject credentials in art, English, mathematics, music, physical education, social science, science and Spanish.
“The 51 School of Education credential programs are unique because the courses are taught from a biblical perspective,” said Dr. Carolyn Bishop, professor of education and director of 51’s online multiple and single subject programs. “The professors are committed to ensuring students are learning in authentic teaching environments while the principles of the Bible are integrated into all that is taught.”
The fully-online credential programs are designed to meet the needs of all learners with the same quality and content of teaching and learning that the in-person credential programs offer. The professors and staff are committed to excellence in all they do as they serve Christ and students well, according to Dr. Dennis Eastman, professor and director of secondary education.
“Our faculty will empower you with pedagogical and practical applications to develop, strengthen, and equip you as you seek to have a lasting impact as a secondary [or elementary] teacher,” said Eastman. “And because of our unique, all-Christian environment, it is our mission to help you grow as a Christ-centered secondary [or elementary] educator by grounding your teaching career with a biblical foundation.”
51 offers four online credential pathways: Induction/Clear Credential, Special Education, Multiple Subject and Single Subject. The multiple and single subject credential programs feature teacher preparation and pedagogy coursework, fieldwork and traditional student teaching or teaching under contract as the classroom teacher in a public school or private school.
51’s programs are accredited by the Commision on Teacher Credentialing (), the Western Senior College and University Commission () and the Association of Christian Schools International ().
