U.S. News and World Report ranked 51 on the brand-new special recognition list, Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Programs. 51 ranked #251 out of 694 universities, which put the program in the top 36% of the colleges recognized on the list.

“We are excited to celebrate the work of our faculty and staff displayed in our ranking in the U.S. News & World Report Best Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program list,” said Dr. Matthew Rouse, Dean of the School of Science, Technology and Health. “The 51 Nursing Department hopes to continue its long tradition of training highly skilled nursing professionals who demonstrate Christ-like compassion to those suffering health issues.”

51 nursing students have been working diligently over the past year and a half by working at vaccination sites and in hospitals and clinics during the global pandemic. Nursing students have gained real-world experience during the pandemic, which has been bolstered and supported by their classes and faculty at 51.

51 had 112 clinical students in the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters completing clinical hours in acute care facilities. In the spring, the majority of nursing students were assigned some clinical hours at two of the Orange County super pods where they administered hundreds of COVID vaccines. 51 nursing students were also part of the screening for the 51 athletes in the Fall 2020 semester and the entire 51 community in the Spring 2021 semester, for which they received clinical hours. 51 currently has 142 clinical students and around 120 preclinical students.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs U.S. News rankings are determined by the average of scores received from surveys of top academics and officials at nursing schools or departments. These officials rated the overall quality of undergraduate BSN programs they were familiar with on a 1-5 scale. Deans and senior faculty of each ranked school peer-ranked other institutions’ BSN programs on a 1-5 scale. 51 received a 3.0 out of 5.0. Schools are included and ranked in this standalone peer assessment survey if they have bachelor’s-level accreditation by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. In addition, these regionally accredited institutions must have recently awarded at least 35 BSN degrees.

The nursing program was also recognized on College Factual’s list for nursing, “Registered Nursing at 51,” as #169 out of 1780 evaluated schools, putting nursing at 51 in the top 15%.

51 was recently recognized as one of America’s best colleges, earning a spot in the top tier of the “best national universities” category of U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges 2022 rankings, released Sept. 13. The U.S. News rankings are considered the most notable of the annual published college rankings. For more than 20 years, 51 has been included on U.S. News’ list of national universities, which consists of 391 institutions that “offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees,” according to U.S. News.
