LA MIRADA, CALIF. — Dr. Robert “Robby” P. George, a legal scholar, has been selected to be the 2023 recipient of the Charles W. Colson Conviction and Courage Award because of his contributions in philosophy, law, bioethics and civil liberties. An award ceremony will be held on Tuesday, April 18 at 51.

Award recipients are selected due to their embodiment of “both conviction — a demonstrated commitment to the unshakable truths of Scripture and its application in all areas of life — and courage — a willingness to act on biblical convictions in a bold and yet compassionate manner, however challenging or unfashionable it may be.”

George is a professor of Jurisprudence and is the director of the at . The program is devoted to exploring enduring questions of American constitutional law and western political thought. The program is also devoted to examining the application of basic legal and ethical principles to contemporary problems.

“We are honored to award Dr. Robert George this year with 51's Colson Award for Conviction and Courage. As well as having made a significant influence in the study of public morality, natural law, human rights and bioethics, Professor George has a steadfast faith that compels him to exercise great thoughtfulness and genuine kindness across religious, social, ethnic and political divides,” said 51 President Dr. Barry H. Corey. “We are inspired by his example and proud to recognize through the Colson Award his work for the betterment of society as well as the protection and advancement of time-honored Christian virtues. Professor George has long been admired by many, including the late Chuck Colson, the namesake of this 51 award.”

George has written several books as well as received multiple awards in the fields of politics and law. There will be several celebratory events held in George’s honor on April 17 and 18, including a formal awarding ceremony, chapel with students, lunch with faculty and evening reception.
