When God’s people are carrying out God’s mission, they can expect opposition. The Apostle Paul experienced this — everywhere he went he faced opposition. He knew it would be something all Christians would face. That’s why he wrote what he did to the church in Ephesus.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.” (Eph. 6:10-13)

Paul ends the passage with an exhortation to pray: “Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.” (Eph. 6:18)

We’re in a spiritual battle, and election seasons seem to intensify the battle. But no matter how daunting our foe, our God is greater, and He’s given us the weapons we need. To that end, “armor” up by committing to pray daily. Join me in reflecting on the Armor of God and to pray throughout election week.
