Talbot School of Theology has been granted Affiliate Member status in the International Council for Evangelical Theological Education (ICETE). ICETE is a global community, sponsored by nine regional associations of theological schools, to enable international interaction and collaboration among all those concerned for the enhancement of evangelical theological education worldwide.
For decades, Talbot has helped equip international students for ministry in their home settings. Becoming an affiliate member of ICETE will provide us with opportunities to learn from others in theological education around the world, and discern how we might be involved in support- ing colleagues and like-minded schools outside the U.S., said Kevin Lawson, Talbot professor of education. This will increase our global vision of the Kingdom of God and the work of the church. I'm excited that we have taken this step, and I look forward to increased international conversations on theological education.
Over the last five years, Lawson and Orbelina Eguizabal (Ph.D. 03), Talbot professor of Christian higher education, who both teach in Talbots Ph.D. and Ed.D. programs in educational studies, have participated in ICETE international forums. Lawson currently serves as co-chair of the Doctoral Initiative Steering Committee, supporting the development of doctoral programs to serve the needs of seminaries and the church internationally. Talbot hosted the Doctoral Initiative Steering Committee last fall.
A highlight for many ICETE members is the triennial consultation, bringing together theological educators and church leaders from around the world for several days of plenary speakers, breakout sessions and informal conversations, said Paul Sanders, senior consultant and former president of ICETE.
Talbot has always had a firm commitment to global theological education, both in the United States and abroad, demonstrated by its extension sites in New York and Kyiv, Ukraine. Joining ICETE underscores this long-standing commitment.
