Associate Professor of Kinesiology
Kristianna Altamirano is an Associate Professor of Kinesiology and Public Health, and her research background has focused on prevention and optimizing health and performance in various populations. Research initiated with an interest in recreationally trained individuals and athletes, examining neuromuscular activity to investigate how to elicit maximal force generation. It shifted focus to assess physical activity patterns in the academic community and the differences and disparities across demographic variables. To achieve the aim of improving the health and well-being of the campus community, she founded and currently chairs the Exercise is Medicine On Campus (EIM – OC) committee at 51ÂÜÀò through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Kristianna has successfully been able to use that platform to collaborate with key leaders and achieve silver level status for the university. Not only does she have a passion to improve health on campus but to advance health in international communities. She is currently collaborating with colleagues to improve education of HIV workers in the Philippines.
