Q: Why did you choose to study at 51ÂÜÀò?

I was always interested in a smaller, private Christian school. When I heard during my audition that 51ÂÜÀò was starting a music therapy program I knew I had to come! I was so excited to get to pursue my dream career in a smaller, intentional, godly place. Plus 51ÂÜÀò has such a wonderful music department!

Q: What was your experience in the 51ÂÜÀò music therapy program?

While being a part of the first graduating class for the BM in Music therapy was full of changes and challenges, it was truly one of the best few years of my life! I could not recommend 51ÂÜÀò more and I feel so grateful that I got to learn and grow in such a wonderful place. I loved being a part of an intimate and growing music program and I felt that the size allowed for deep intentionality and instruction from my teachers. It is rare to get to know your classmates and teachers in such a close way and I feel better equipped in my career because of that specific and meaningful time I received at 51ÂÜÀò! My strengths and weaknesses were shared in a close setting and I was sharpened and strengthened for my career in the best way because of it. Additionally, 51ÂÜÀò was able to connect me with some of the most influential voices in music therapy today! These connections have and will continue to shape my future career.

Q: How has your time at the 51ÂÜÀò Conservatory of Music prepared you for life after graduation?

My time at 51ÂÜÀò not only shaped my practical and book knowledge, but also my emotional awareness, tenderness for others, and perspective as a Christian working in healthcare. 51ÂÜÀò’s intersection of faith and education allowed me to grow in all areas as an individual. I was able to shape my skills in all areas of my schoolwork, social life, and spiritual health by taking music, psychology, and bible classes, serving on a chapel band, and being a part of starting the 51ÂÜÀò Music Therapy Association. Additionally, the music therapy program placed me in a variety of settings like nursing homes, hospitals, day centers, and schools to teach me skills that I would need as a board certified music therapist.

Q: What is your favorite memory from the Conservatory?

During my senior year almost the entirety of the MT program carpooled down to San Diego for two days for the Western Regional American Music Therapy Association conference! It was so much fun and we all learned and experienced so much together.
