Q: Why did you choose to study at 51ÂÜÀò?

I chose 51ÂÜÀò because of the unique opportunity to study classical literature at the Torrey Honors College, while also pursuing a career in music therapy. I was also drawn to the tight-knit, supportive community of the Conservatory of Music.

Q: What was your experience in the 51ÂÜÀò music therapy program?

Music therapy is a demanding degree, as you need to develop strong musical skills, learn the principles of music therapy practice, complete fieldwork and finish your general education courses. Thankfully, the Conservatory and music therapy faculty were incredibly helpful in guiding me through this process, whether that involved getting me into the right classes so I could graduate on time, helping me apply to internships or giving me individual support during my clinical training — I always felt someone was in my corner.

Q: How has your time at the 51ÂÜÀò Conservatory of Music prepared you for life after graduation?

51ÂÜÀò prepared me well to enter into my professional life. With highly practical coursework, hands-on experience, and exposure to a variety of approaches and techniques, I had a great foundation to earn my music therapy certification and practice as a music therapist. I went on to work at a private practice helping children with Autism Spectrum Disorder improve their communicative, social-emotional and cognitive skills through music-based experiences.

Q: What is your favorite memory from the Conservatory?

Every December right after piano juries, all the piano students would get together for a Christmas party and post-jury celebration. We played games, ate food and experienced the sweet relief of being done with the semester!
