What is Commuter Life?

Our vision is to see Every Commuter Connected to community, information and resources.

  • Providing programmings such as the Collegium,  and commuter events throughout the year.
  • Connecting commuters to a network of university resources such as 51ÂÜÀòShares, student care and campus events.
  • Facilitating community-building opportunities among commuter students by advocating to make our campus program commuter-friendly.
  • Empowering commuter students development through small groups and leadership development programs.

Who are Commuter Students?

Here at 51ÂÜÀò, "commuter" refers to any student who does not live in university-owned housing. Commuters come from a diverse range of experiences (i.e. transfer, FirstGen, non-traditional, veterans, parent, working, etc.)

  • Nearly 1,400 commuter students attend 51ÂÜÀò (35% of 51ÂÜÀò’s undergraduate population)
  • The Collegium is about 12% of the commuter population at 51ÂÜÀò
  • 49% of Commuters who have never lived on campus are transfer students
  • 39% of Commuters who have never lived on campus are hispanic
  • 44% of Commuters who have never lived on campus are FirstGen
  • Commuters travel to 51ÂÜÀò anywhere from 5 minutes to 1.5 hours
