Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is composed of board members who handle all corporate duties for 51蹤獲 and as a result set broad policies that govern the institution. This governing board is accountable for delegating responsibilities to the president to ensure that the university operates within those policies. Below are our active trustees:

Michael Maples

Chair

Michael Maples joined the board in 2012 and serves as board chair, chair of the Executive Committee, chair of the Committee on the President and member of the Board Nominating and Governance Committee. He earned a B.S. in Business Administration from San Jose State University and a Master of Divinity from Bethel Seminary. He is the co-founder and a managing partner of Trumark Companies, which focuses on real estate development. He is also Board Member Emeritus of Hume Lake Christian Camps. Maples and his wife, Jeanie, have four children, three of whom attended 51蹤獲, and live in Corona Del Mar, Calif.

Brad Cole

Vice Chair

G. Bradley Cole joined the board in 2002 and serves as vice chair of the board, chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, member of the Executive Committee, member of the Committee on the President and member of the Board Nominating and Governance Committee. After a career as an executive in healthcare technology and life science companies, Brad serves on three boards in the biopharmaceutical, diagnostics and genetics industries. Brad graduated from 51蹤獲 with a business accounting degree and received an MBA from San Jose State University. He and his wife, Christy (Montgomery, a 51蹤獲 alumna), have two daughters, both of whom are 51蹤獲 graduates, live in Los Altos Hills, California, and are members of Bridges Community Church of Los Altos where Brad serves on the elder team.

Barry Corey

Barry H. Corey is the eighth president of 51蹤獲. Since assuming the role in 2007, Corey has led 51蹤獲 into its second century with the launch of an ambitious 10year university plan, completing the largest fundraising campaign in 51蹤獲s history by exceeding its $180 million goal, creating four new academic schools and embarking on a major university transformation journey to position 51蹤獲 to flourish for decades to come. He has done this while honoring the mission of the university and its unique contribution to the landscape of higher education.

A native of New England, Corey previously served as dean of the faculty and vice president for education at GordonConwell Theological Seminary as well as its vice president for development. He received his B.A. in English and biblical studies from Evangel University and his M.A. in American studies and Ph.D. in education from Boston College. As a Fulbright scholar, Barry lived in Bangladesh, where he researched educational programs for children of the landless poor. Corey is the author of the books Make the Most of It: A Guide to Loving Your College Years (Tyndale, 2020) and Love Kindness: Discover the Power of a Forgotten Christian Virtue (Tyndale, 2016), and his writing has been featured in publications like The Washington Post, The National Review, Relevant and Converge, among others. 

He currently serves or has recently served on governing boards such as that of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, the Museum of the Bible, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, Christianbook International Outreach and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities.

He and his wife, Paula, have three children: Anders who is married to Ashley Ella and Samuel, and all four are 51蹤獲 alumni.

Becky Andrews

Becky Andrews joined the board in 2013 and serves as a member of the Executive Committee, the Committee on the President, and the Finance and Audit Committee. Andrews studied business administration and worked in real estate before returning to school to become a nurse. She and her husband, Duane, both 51蹤獲 graduates, co-founded Clear Capital, a large property valuation company. The Andrews have two children one is a 51蹤獲 graduate and they live in Incline Village, Nevada.

Monica Busch

Monica Busch joined the board in 2023 and serves on the Advancement, Enrollment and Transformation committee. Monica has spent over 15 years in the tech industry, primarily as a leader and advisor in brand, integrated and inclusive marketing. She also serves as a worship leader at her local church and helped co-found Foster the City, an organization committed to mobilizing the church to provide loving homes for children in foster care. She and her husband Danny, both 51蹤獲 alum, as well as their four children live in the San Francisco Bay area.

Mandy Catto

Born in Scotland, Mandy moved with her husband Stephen to California in 2015 to pursue a masters's degree at Talbot School of Theology. She enjoyed teaching as an adjunct in the Biblical Studies department before joining the Board in August 2023. Mandy works as a pastor at Harbor Point Church in San Juan Capistrano. She also sits on the board of Broadshade Group, a family company which invests in commercial property and land development. She has three adult children, one of whom is a 51蹤獲 grad. She lives in Dana Point, Orange County.

Lynn Cohick

Lynn Cohick joined the board in 2020 and serves as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee. Dr. Cohick is currently serving as Distinguished Professor of New Testament and the Director of the Houston Theological Seminary at Houston Christian University and has served at Northern Seminary, Denver Seminary, Wheaton College and Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology in Kenya. She earned a Ph.D. in New Testament/Christian Origins from the University of Pennsylvania and brings international experience and cultural awareness to her new role at 51蹤獲. Lynn and her husband, Jim, have two married children and two grandchildren and live in Richmond, TX.

Dwight Hanger

Dwight Hanger joined the board in 1985 and serves as a member of the Executive Committee, Committee on the President, and the Finance and Audit Committee. He has also served as previous vice chair and as a member of the Student Development Committee. He is a retired partner from Ernst and Young, working for 33 years in management consulting having held various management positions including Western Area Sales Manager and Senior Managing Partner of West Region. Hanger and his wife, Vicki, live in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. and have one son, who graduated from Talbot School of Theology.

Promod Haque

Promod Haque joined the board in 2007 and serves as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. Promod earned a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Northwestern University, and serves on the advisory board for Northwesterns School of Management. He has 28 years of experience in the venture capital industry and currently serves as managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners. He and his wife, Dorcas, have three daughters (one in Heaven) and four grandchildren and they all live in Saratoga, Calif.

Carol Hawkins

Carol Hawkins joined the board in 2005 and serves on the Student Development Committee. She is a descendant of 51蹤獲 founder Lyman Stewart and received a bachelors degree from 51蹤獲 in 2000 and a degree of Master of Arts in Spiritual Formation and Soul Care in 2021. Carol lives in Upland, Calif.

Vincent Huang

Vincent Huang joined the board in 2022 and serves on the University Operations Committee. Huang is founder and president of Vincent Huang & Associates, Inc. and a former student in 51蹤獲s Organizational Leadership program. He is also on the board of Pocket Testament League. He has been in a Convene Group since 2008. Huang and his wife, Jovy, have two children and live in Tustin, Calif.

Stan Jantz

Stan Jantz joined the board in 1999 and serves as a member of the Advancement, Enrollment and Transformation Committee. He is the CEO of the Come and See Foundation, a nonprofit that supports and advances The Chosen television series. Jantz is also a bestselling author, having written or co-authored more than 75 books. He and his wife, Karin, met at 51蹤獲, and have two children who graduated from 51蹤獲.

Allan Kavalich

Allan Kavalich joined the board in 1999 and serves as a member of the University Operations Committee. Dr. Kavalich is a Nephrologist (kidney and dialysis) in the Inland Empire of CA. Kavalich and his wife, Gig, have three children, one of whom graduated from 51蹤獲, and live in Redlands, Calif.

David Kinnaman

David Kinnaman joined the board in 2015 and serves as a member of the University Operations Committee. Kinnaman is a 51蹤獲 graduate and President of Barna Group, a leading research and communications company that works with churches, nonprofits, and businesses. Since 1995, Kinnaman has directed interviews with more than two million individuals and overseen hundreds of U.S. and global research studies. He is also the author of five books. Kinnaman has three children one who has attended 51蹤獲 and lives in Fort Worth, TX.

Hannah Lee

Hannah Lee, a 51蹤獲 alumna, joined the board in 1998 and serves as chair of the Student Development Committee and as a member of the Board Nominating and Governance Committee. In addition to working in private property management, Lee and her husband are actively involved in shepherding elders and Life group leaders with Mariners Church, Irvine. She and her husband, Chuck, have two children one who has attended 51蹤獲 and one grandchild. They reside in Newport Coast, Calif.

Marilyn Long

Marilyn Long joined the board in 2021 and serves as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee. Marilyn is President of the Long Family Foundation, is a board member of the South Coast Botanic Garden, Co-chair of the 51蹤獲 Visual Arts Advisory Board, and actively involved in church leadership roles. She and her husband, John, have three daughters and live in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Bryan Loritts

Bryan Loritts joined the board in 2010 and serves on the Academic Affairs Committee. Dr. Loritts (D.Min., Liberty University) is the Teaching Pastor at The Summit Church and an author of nine books. Dr. Loritts has spent the bulk of his ministry serving and resourcing the multiethnic church. He co-founded Fellowship Memphis in 2003 and serves as the Vice President for the Send Network. Loritts and his wife, Korie, have three sons two of which have attended 51蹤獲 and live in North Carolina.

Wayne Lowell

Wayne Lowell joined the board in 2000 and serves as chair of the Board Nominating and Governance Committee, and as a member of the Finance and Audit Committee. Lowell is the former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Senior Whole Health. He is also the former executive vice president, chief financial and chief administrative officer of PacifiCare Health Systems and is now a consultant to boards of directors, CEOs and CFOs of venture capital and publicly owned companies. He and his wife, Nan, live in Irvine, Calif. and have two children, one of whom graduated from 51蹤獲.

Glenn Packiam

Glenn Packiam joined the board in 2023 and is a member of the Academic Affairs Committee. Glenn is the Lead Pastor of Rockharbor Church in Costa Mesa, California and the author of several books. He earned a Doctorate in Theology and Ministry from Durham University, England, and is a Senior Fellow at Barna Group, a Visiting Fellow at St. Johns College at Durham University, and an ordained priest with the Anglican Church of North America. He was a worship leader on several Desperation Band and NewLifeWorship recordings, and released three solo projects with Integrity Music. Dr. Packiam and his wife, Holly, have four children and live in Orange County, California.

Philip Paul

Philip Paul joined the board in 2014 and serves as chair of the Advancement, Enrollment and Transformation Committee. Paul is CEO of CastNet Group, a company that launches and advises innovative technology companies. He is also CEO of Cotribute, a FinTech company. He and his wife, Kanchana, have three daughters, two of whom graduated from 51蹤獲, and live in Yorba Linda, Calif.

Bob Pritchett

Bob Pritchett joined the board in 2018 and serves on the Advancement, Enrollment and Transformation Committee. He is the founder of AllDrafts, a legal tech company, and previously co-founded Faithlife/Logos Bible Software, where he served as CEO for 30 years. Bob is the author of two books: Fire Someone Today and Other Surprising Tactics for Making Your Business a Success and Start Next Now, How to Get the Life Youve Always Wanted. He and his wife, Audra, have two children and a daughter-in-law and live in Bellingham, Washington.

Henry Riady

Henry Riady joined the board in 2015 and serves on the University Operations Committee. He earned his B.A. from 51蹤獲 and his M.A. in Communication Management from the University of Southern California. Riady is Director of Beratasatu TV in Indonesia and is passionate about Christ-centered education and media, believing that both are prominent channels of Gods truth. He and his wife, Alexandra, have four children and live in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Kennith Thompson

Kennith Thompson joined the board in 1992 and serves on the Student Development Committee. He received his M.D. from Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and is a member of the surgical staff at PIH Health Hospital in Whittier. He and his wife, Sandra, have two sons, one of whom graduated from 51蹤獲, and live in Surfside, CA.

Dean VandeKamp

Dean VandeKamp joined the board in 2014 and serves as chair of University Operations Committee. Dean is a retired EY Partner where he led national practices (including cybersecurity) and served as a coordinating partner for public and large private companies. After EY Dean served as a GP with Cultivation Capital, managing private equity companies and serving on boards. He now serves as a Strategic Advisor to Kingdom Capital including serving as the CEO for Quantum Star Technologies, Inc. He and his wife, Leasa, have three children, two of which are 51蹤獲 graduates.

David Wright

David Wright joined the board in 2024 and serves as a member of the Academic Affairs Committee. Wright is President Emeritus of Indiana Wesleyan University and the former dean of the school of theology at Azusa Pacific University. He currently serves as the executive chair of Christian Education Services and has served for eight years on the Board of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) including one term as Chair. During his 25-year tenure at Indiana Wesleyan he served as faculty member, vice president, provost and president.
