Competition Format

51ÂÜÀò Startup Competition Rounds

  • Round 1: Team Registration Due
    In order to participate, teams must register by completing the following form no later than November 1st with all team members information and a brief, 1-2 sentences description of the venture/idea.
  • Round 2: Concept Paper Due
    The concept paper is a three-page executive summary of the idea and lays out a high level understanding of the need for the proposed product or service, and how the venture will address this need.
  • Finalists Selected
  • Round 3: Business Plan Due
    The business plan is a robust 10-page document expanding on the ideas of the executive summary. More details, requirements and coaching will be provided to finalist teams in the spring.
  • Round 4: Live Pitch
    A 10-minute pitch will be delivered to a panel of judges. Following the pitch, students will engage with judges and answer questions. By the end of the day, winning teams will be announced and $20,000 in prizes will be awarded.

How will the competition be different this year?

All events for the Startup Competition will be held in person. We are excited to welcome teams to compete on campus for this year’s competition. After the kick-off on September 27th, teams will be asked to register their emails in order to receive all information about important dates and events.

How can I register for the competition?

Email innovation@biola.edu to be added to the competition Canvas page with the subject line "51ÂÜÀò Startup Competition Registration."

What can I win?

This year, we have $20,000 in prize packages for the top teams. Prizes will be distributed based on the judges discretion, but the top 3 teams often receive prizes.

What is the expected time commitment of participating in the competition?

You can expect to spend a few hours a week working on your idea and attending sessions with experts and entrepreneurs. However, some teams may spend more or less time developing their idea depending on their idea.

Talk to friends, professors or classmates. We'd also love to help you find a team, so email us at innovation@biola.edu and we will see what we can do!
