Program Requirements
Students enrolled in the M.A. in P-12 Multilingual, Multicultural Education program must meet and maintain the following requirements during their program. Please note that program requirements vary by concentration.
Bilingual Authorization Spanish
Description: Approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, the bilingual authorization can be attached to any existing California credential. Candidates will need to complete three courses at the graduate level and demonstrate Spanish language proficiency as approved by the Department of Modern Languages assessment.

Capstone Requirement | Students will complete a capstone project in SEED 630 Culminating Experience Seminar for P-12 Multilingual and Multicultural Education. Students choose from a variety of options such as action research, thesis, a service-based curriculum project or related activity. The capstone course must be taken the final semester and approved by the professor of the course one semester prior to taking the class. |

For non-California residents: Students outside of California need to arrange their own fieldwork placement required for the bilingual authorization and/or certificate. The following three steps must be completed:

TB Clearance | Students must submit documentation of tuberculosis (TB) test clearance administered or the three months prior to starting fieldwork. |
Applying for the Bilingual Authorization from CCTC | Students who have completed all 9 units in the Bilingual Authorization specialization with a grade of B- or higher, may apply through the School of Education to be formally recommended to CTC for the authorization to be added to an existing California teaching credential. Students must complete the following steps:

Applying for the Institution- Sponsored Certificate |
Students who have completed all 9 units in the Bilingual Authorization specialization with a grade of B- or higher may apply for the Certificate in Bilingual Education: Spanish Language, Culture and Methodology by submitting the Checklist Form for the Certificate in Bilingual Education Spanish. |
Bilingualism and Biliteracy for Young Learners
Description: This concentration provides a deep dive into literacy practices for dual language learners with an emphasis on listening, speaking, reading, and writing in multilingual contexts, making it especially appropriate for early childhood teachers of ages 0 to 8.

Language Acquisition: Assessment and Learning
Description: Strengthen your understanding of how students acquire language with research-based best practices for language assessment and academic vocabulary development in P-12 and adult education.

Personalized
Description: Designed for experienced educators, this concentration allows you flexibility to self-select 9 credits of advanced coursework related to language, culture and diversity.
Students in the 51蹤獲 School of Education teaching credential program may use up to 9 credits of their graduate credential coursework, including student teaching, to count for the Personalized concentration, leaving only 21 credits to complete the degree.
